Scholarships & Stipends

 

ORSA is proud to be able to provide a variety of scholarships and stipends to its members to help offset travel and/or registration costs associated with attending professional development opportunities. All applications for scholarships and stipends will be reviewed by the Professional Development Committee and evaluated on the following criteria:

  • The quality of the applicant’s submission responses
  • ORSA involvement
  • The applicant's past involvement in NIRSA national, regional, and state workshop/conferences, committees, presentations, and volunteer opportunities.
  • The applicant's career goals and commitment to NIRSA at the national, regional, and state levels.
  • The applicant's ability to clearly articulate their purpose for attending the workshop or conference.
  • The quality and professionalism of the applicant's resume/vita.

**IMPORTANT!** Each applicant to any and all scholarships and stipends must also submit their professional resume/vita via email to the Committee Co-Chairs, Michelle Rieger at m.m.rieger@csuohio.edu OR Andrew Jordan at jordan.430@osu.edu.

 

ORSA Travel and Development Stipend

ORSA offers travel and development stipends to active ORSA members who are in need of additional financial assistance to a development opportunity of their choosing. These stipends, while available year round, are limited, as they are offered on a first come, first serve basis. Resumes should be submitted within 48 hours of the application.  The Professional Development Committee will contact winners and post when all stipends have been disbursed.

NEW! NIRSA School of Collegiate Rec Scholarship

NIRSA School of Collegiate Recreation | DUE: April 28th, 2019 @ 5pm
The ORSA Professional Development committee is excited to announce a new initiative to award scholarships to ORSA members attending the NIRSA School of Collegiate Recreation, this year in Portland, Oregon.

 

Will M. Holsberry Student Scholarship

ORSA State Workshop | DUE: check back for 2019 dates
This scholarship to attend the ORSA state workshop honors Will M. Holsberry, the first Executive Director of NIRSA National Office and past NIRSA Honor Award recipient, who dedicated his life to advancing the campus recreation profession and advocating for professional and student development.

Eligible to currently-enrolled students, scholarship offers assistance to undergraduate and graduate students to help cover registration costs associated with attending ORSA's State Workshop.

ORSA Professional Scholarship

The ORSA Professional Scholarship is offered to anyone who has been working in the field of collegiate recreation as a full-time professional for 3 or more years. It helps to offset registration costs associated with attending professional development events.

2019 J. Michael Dunn Student Scholarship

Region III Student Lead On | DUE: check back for 2019 dates
This scholarship to attend Region III Student Lead On honors the memory of Mike Dunn, a long-time ORSA, Region III, and NIRSA member, former Honor Award recipient, and Past President of NIRSA, who dedicated his career to advancing the profession of collegiate recreation and the student experience.

2020 NIRSA Conference Professional Scholarship

2019 Besner/Sells Student Scholarship

NIRSA Annual Conference; Campus Rec & Wellness Expo | DUE: check back for 2019 dates
This scholarship to attend the NIRSA annual conference and Campus Rec & Wellness Expo honors Patricia Besner, past NIRSA Honor Award recipient, past NIRSA President, and Bill Sells, past NIRSA President, who demonstrated exceptional leadership and service. They dedicated their careers to inclusivity of the full breadth of potential professional and student members.

ORSA Extramural Scholarship

The ORSA Extramural Committee is pleased to offer the Extramural Scholarship to help with costs related to local, regional, and national extramural events. Any student official at an ORSA institution is eligible to apply.

The application period is now closed. DUE: check back for 2019 dates

  • Qualifying assistance includes:
    • NIRSA Regional/National tournament travel assistance
    • NIRSA/Region III/ORSA Extramural workshop registration/travel assistance
    • Other qualifying extramural events
  • Scholarships awarded will be given on a reimbursement basis, and are contingent upon attendance and actual cost incurred during the trip.
  • The Fall scholarship is applicable for any events that occur between May 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019. 
  • This includes (but is not limited to) the NIRSA Region III Flag Football Workshop and Flag Football Regional Championships.
  • Applicants are required to submit original copies of receipts if they receive a scholarship.
